How can one cure the mind from negative thoughts?

negativity

Today I got the very brilliant question: “How can one cure the mind from negative thoughts?” and I answered the following:

“Through the method of practice of getting to know oneself. I view upon my thoughts as something that is a part of myself and I like to ask myself the questions: ‘why do I think in a pattern that gives birth to (in this case) negativity? Why do I put together the pieces in a way that distances myself from being able to see the world, scenario or a phenomenon in a way that is lesser appealing to my own well-being? Is it my past? Is it that I might be afraid of what might happen?’

it-wont-work

In either way, I have realized that the mind is like a filter of the brain that in the end only displays my most inner subconscious perspective of my own life. If i am living in subconscious fear of anything, it is more likely that my awareness and thoughts will resonate with that attitude (fear). If however I choose to re-train my mind to uplift a compassionate view on the world, this life and indeed my very own thoughts in any given moment, I can begin to alter my state of mind in which one chooses to use. Naturally, this is a process that takes time and a whole deal of patience and discipline because one is implying to oneself that ‘Hey, I might have been wrong about a lot of things.’

negative thought
The shadow of fear and indeed our biggest enemy in such a process is our ego. The ego is fueled and stays alive by being fed thoughts and information which resonate with fear. Silence the mind. You are its master, not the other way around. Tools such as meditation, reading and music are great ways of turning attention inwards for that is what is needed. The quieter we become, the more we begin to hear. The more we hear from our own deepest self, the more we can being to eliminate or overcome.

negative-no-nega

To practice oneself to highlight and bring out the positive qualities of the mind is to forge a weapon truly stronger than any material object. It is a weapon of the soul. It is the establishment of an open link between the heart and the mind. These two put together will eliminate one’s own suffering in any way and give you the ability to constantly be self-aware. Otherwise you are nothing else but a slave to your own mind.” [Source]

inspire

After reading this article, I am inspired to share what had happened to me this afternoon.

I have experienced a very negative afternoon just today. After having lunch, I watch youtube video about “Vice” – my favorite comedy actress (She’s a gay and that doesn’t matter to me actually. I don’t look into the gender of the person. To make it short, I like her.).

headsets

She is so funny and so I laughed very hard. Very late, I realized, people in the office are bothered with my laughs and find it noisy. Every time I laugh, they will whisper, “shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… ”- Something that I didn’t hear because I am putting my headsets on. I am very shy at that time and wish that Earth will suddenly open and my chair will be going to eat me. I wish I will become invisible.

To at least reduce my embarrassment, I asked a bunch of people close to my heart. I ask them the same questions:

laying-with-headsets

@ Have I made it so loud? My laugh? 😥

Friend A – Yes. And people are saying “shhhhhhh…”

Friend B – Yes. But, it’s okay.

Friend C – Yeah, but that’s okay. Don’t worry.

Friend D – No. Not really! And, one thing, it’s not against the law to laugh!

@ whew.. 😥 I can’t concentrate with my work. I am always thinking about what had happened.

Friend A – Just forget about what happened.

Friend B – Duuuh… Don’t think about it. It’s okay.

Friend C – …

Friend D – It’s not actually a big deal!

@ 😥

Friend A – No. Don’t cry, ma! It’s actually natural to show off our flaws. Without it, it’s no longer us! I have to go back to work. Talk to you later.

Friend B – don’t think about it na lang kasi.

Friend C – Work mode.

Friend D – (mute)

@ What if they are mad? And will nag at me? 😥

Friend B – Why are you so nega (negative)?

Friend C – Then, nag at them as well!

@ I felt like I will explode!

Friend B – Focus on your work instead! And forget about it.

Friend D – Just stop thinking about it.

//////////================================////////

Few minutes later…

Friend A – (sent a link [http://www.consciousness-evolution.org/?p=188])

realization

And so I realize, it had happened. I can’t turn back time. They saw my flaws, and then be it! It’s good that they knew something about me than not knowing me at all. It’s not my problem if they can’t accept my flaws.

I find it beneficial in my part that they saw something negative about me. It’s a lesson for me to adjust in times like this. I can minimize my voice when watching funny videos in youtube next time.

While writing this article, my heavy heart becomes lighter and lighter.

What about you? Do you have situations like mine? How do you do when feeling overwhelmed by negativity?

A Letter from a Dog-“How Could You?”

A letter from a dogWhen I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh.

You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was “bad,” you’d shake your finger at me and ask, “How could you?” — but then you’d relent and roll me over for a belly rub.

My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect.

We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because “ice cream is bad for dogs” you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.

A letter from a dog

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love.

She, now your wife, is not a “dog person” — still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate.
a letter from a dog 03

Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a “prisoner of love.” As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch — because your touch was now so infrequent — and I would’ve defended them with my life if need be. I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway.

There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered “yes” and changed the subject. I had gone from being “your dog” to “just a dog,” and you resented every expenditure on my behalf. Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You’ve made the right decision for your “family,” but there was a time when I was your only family.

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said, “I know you will find a good home for her.” They shrugged and gave you a pained look. T hey understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with “papers.” You had to pry your son’s fingers loose from my collar, as he screamed, “No, Daddy! Please don’t let them take my dog!” And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life.

How Could You?

You gave me a good-bye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too. After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked, “How could you?”

They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you that you had changed your mind — that this was all a bad dream… or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me. When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited.

A letter From A dogI heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days. As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured, “How could you?”

a dog hugging

Perhaps because she understood my dog speak, she said, “I’m so sorry.” She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn’t be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself — a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my “How could you?” was not directed at her.

It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

GET TO KNOW ARIALLEEVE MORE (for my ‘makukulits’ na friends)

ARIALLEEVE

Hi there! Arialleeve here. Just a short description about me – I am the one you’ve seen in the picture above. hehe… very short! But kidding aside, I have made this post because most of my friends are still asking me who is Arialleeve? “Arialleeve is always showing her back can we see her with a front – view image?” That is why this past few days if you have noticed, I changed the image of my gravatar to a front – view image.

arialleeve

I thought, the idea would let them stop to “kulit” me about Arialleeve. haizt… but I thought it wrong! After they saw the image, they want me to create a post that would really review and “lantad” my identity. tsk,.,tsk,., Here is Arialleeve!

I am Joan Villariaza. I’m 18 years of age. Some of my high school friends called me Miss Math (heheh,.. addict to numbers – some says). Nickname? hmmnn.. my nickname at home given by my parents is “bunso” or “youngest” in English because I am the youngest among my siblings. Talking about my friend outside our house, they called me “Jo” and some called me “An”. hehe… make sense? to form Joan! Obviously!

Let’s talk about cats – going back when I was young, I love playing with cats. I love their hair, their eyes, everything about cats! I love it! Until one day, I slept my cat and as her defense, she bit me. 😦 Which give me the idea of hating all the cats. But that was before! I love cats again, NOW!

Let’s talk about chess – I don’t really know how to play chess! Until one night, my cousin Edwin play with our neighbors. He play the game very well. He won – Which give me the courage to study chess’ moves and to learn how to play it! I am very competitive with my cousins when I was young! I am eager to have everything that they have and learn what they knew! Because I also want to win, I ask our teacher in high school to let me play the chess competition in our school. I won (2nd place) in Female category! After that, my mother bought me a chess board – very big one! That’s the history of my chess – life. heheh,..

Let’s talk about numbers – I hate math when I was young like other teens. I hate problem solving… etc.. But what give me the courage to face numbers is my “laziness”! haha… you may wonder why! Each student has their own favorite subject. Because I’m competitive (healthy competition), I want to have one favorite subject as well. I first love English! (english?) BUT there are a lot of things to write down as notes, a lot of things to remember and memorize to form a thought! AND I HATE IT! Because of my laziness, I learned to love Mathematics. In Math subject, you don’t need to think if your sentence is in right grammar. In Mathematics, you don’t need to write down notes… All you see are numbers! PLAIN NUMBERS! No need to take notes! All you need is to understand the formula and after that, no more! haha.. all of that give me a hint to love Mathematics very much.

Let’s talk about food – hehe.. my favorite topic! haha… My favorite food is SPAGHETTI. Some says that spaghetti is not as good as salad! hmpf… I love it… no matter what they say! haha,,. When I am out of mood, I love to eat!  When I have nothing to eat, I am not in good mood! tsk..tsk.. That’s Arialleeve! hehe.. Wanna know more? Drop your questions below under comment!

Photoshop Tool: Magic Wand Tool

PHOTOSOP_MAGIC_WAND_TOOL

Magic Wand tool allows you to select an area of an image based on its edge colour. If you want to create a selection for your face and want to disregard your background, this tool is very helpful for you. You may think about using the pen tool which is everyone’s first choice of doing crops and selection. But you may encounter problem such as inaccurate edges and some fails of selecting an edge.

Thmagic wande magic wand tool will cut your problem off your chest. If you don’t know what it’s look like, the magic wand tool looks like a magic wand in fairy tales. Try opening an image file. Click an area on your image using a magic wand tool. As noticed, all areas that has similar colour are selected.

You can do a lot of changes with the use of your options bar. You can change your tolerance value fro

m 0 to 255.

tolerance

Note: the higher the tolerance, the larger the selection.

You can check the anti-aliased to define a smooth edge to the selection. If you want to only select an area which is joined together, you check the contiguous. Check Use All Layers to select areas from all layers.

options

Please see the above image for options 🙂

Photoshop Tool: Lasso Tool

PHOTOSOP_LASSO_TOOL

Lasso tools allow you to select certain areas of an image by tracing the selection outline. Like the Marquee tool, Lasso has different tools available as well:

According to mediacollege.com,

Lasso Tool

This is a freehand selection tool. Click and hold your left mouse button on the image and draw your selection.

Polygonal Lasso Tool

Similar to the lasso tool, except that instead of holding your mouse button down to draw, left-click on various points to create a selection with a series of straight edges.

You can also hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac OS) to draw freehand sections.

Magnetic Lasso Tool

This is a very handy tool for selecting areas which have reasonably well-defined edges. Left-click at the starting point of your selection and simply move the mouse along the edge.

“Fastening points” are automatically made at various points along the edges. Left-click at any time to add a fastening point manually.

To Complete a Selection

To finish drawing a selection, either click on the selection starting point or double-click anywhere.

Well, a lasso tool works somewhat like the marquee as well. It also creates a marquee to your image and you can use the move tool to move it. 🙂

Photoshop Tool: Move Tool

PHOTOSOP_MOVE_TOOL

Move tool is actually understandable. There is no need to for further discussion. Move tool is use to move an element or a selection.

move

I use move tool after marquee. As I open an image, I will do selection of some of its parts with the help of the marquee tool. If you have read my last post, you will understand why.

According to Wikipedia, The marquee tool can make selections that are single row, single column, rectangular and elliptical. Once an area of an image is highlighted, the move tool can be used to manually relocate the selected piece to anywhere on the canvas.

Furthermore, move tool is not only use to move an image inside your canvas, but you can also move it from one canvas to another.

Photoshop Tool: Marquee Tool

PHOTOSOP_MARQUEE_TOOL

Marquee is used when you want to make a square/rectangular shape on your image. That’s the definition I always give when talking about the marquee tool. But marquee is not only use to make a selection for square or rectangular shape. Marquee comes in different shapes:

marquee

Rectangular Marquee

This is the one I always use. You will use it if you want to make a rectangular shape selection into your image.

Elliptical Marquee

This is a marquee tool that is use when you want to make an elliptical shape of selections.

Single Row marquee

It will make selection to one row of your image. This marquee will create 1 pixel high – horizontal selection on your image.

Single Column Marquee

It will make selection to one column of your image. This marquee will create 1 pixel wide – vertical selection on your image.

Note: You can try them out by clicking a part of your image >> holding your mouse >> move

You can see a formation of marquee tool depending of what marquee you are using.

Photoshop: Introduction to Different Tools

PHOTOSOP_INT_TO_DIFF_TOOLS

In order to understand Photoshop, you have to familiarize the tools used by designers. The tools of Photoshop are divided into five parts: (1) Selection, Crop & Slice Tools, (2) Retouch & Paint Tools, (3) Drawing & Type Tools, (4) Annotation/Measurements, and (5) Color box.

select_crop_slice

Selection, Crop & Slice Tools

This includes marquee, move, lasso, magic wand, crop, and slice tool. Usually, marquee is used when you want to make a square/rectangular shape on your image. Move is understandable already(use to move things). Lasso is use to draw selections in any shape that you would like to create. Magic Wand is used to select a color range. Crop is self-explanatory. Use to crop your image. Slice is used to slice an image when you do slicing. Most commonly, I use this tool when I start to build a new website design.

retouch_paint

Retouch & Paint Tools

This includes healing, brush, clone, history, eraser, fill/gradient, sharpen/blur, and  dodge. Healing is use when repairing something. Brush is very useful and everyone love this because, this is the only tool that you don’t need to study. Clone is somewhat have the same capability to a healing tool. History brush works like a normal brush but the only difference is that it’s paints is from the original state of your image. Eraser is understandable as well. It works like a simple eraser. You can use it when you have made a mistake. Fill is used to fill color to a specific selection. Gradient is use when you are making a gradiation of colors. Sharpen is use when making putting some emphasis to your image corners. Blur can make things blurry. Dodge is used to lighten any area.

drawing_type

Drawing & Type Tools

This group of tools are used for vector based drawing and type. This includes path selection, horizontal type, rectangle and my favorite pen tool.

annotation_measurement

Annotation/Measurements

These are tools use for remarks and dimensions. This includes notes, eyedropper, hand, and zoom. Note is use if you want to make a small note to your image. Eyedropper is use when you like to change your foreground background color to whatever color you want. Hand is use to move the image. Zoom is understandable. Use to change the size of your image.

foreground_background

Color Box

This contains boxes of colors. Foreground is the one in front and Background is the one at the back. You can click on any of them to bring up the color.

New Chapter: Photoshop

NEW_CHAPTER_PHOTOSHOP

When people ask for the best application to use for photo editing, Photoshop is the first in the list. It can be an image creation tool and an image editor at the same time. What is a Photoshop? How to Photoshop? According to Wikipedia, Photoshop is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems.

index

Adobe’s 2003 “Creative Suite” rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8’s renaming to AdobePhotoshop CS. Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the 12th major release of Adobe Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price.

Adobe Photoshop is released in two editions: Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Photoshop Extended, with the Extended having extra 3D image creation, motion graphics and advanced image analysis features.

Adobe Photoshop Extended is included in all of Adobe’s Creative Suite offerings except Design Standard, which includes the Adobe Photoshop edition.

This new chapter of my session, we will be tackling Photoshop. They said, only “professionals” can use Photoshop (which is very untrue!). I am not a professional but I am using it! My classmates aren’t professionals as well! Let’s take this conversation hanging. Thanks for reading and see you next time.

New Chapter: The come back!

new-chapter

Is it a month since you heard a my last blog post? Nope, maybe two. For my long day of silence, I am coming back for good to share again another chapter of my learning after the Ipv6 session.

Have you learnt something on my past posts? Let me give you a recap:

IPv6 for beginners – I gave highlights of IPV6 for those who are new in this term.

Introduction – I have stated all about me. Few are asking and telling me to make a post that only tackles who I am! So, I made a post for them.

Link Local Address – It defines what a Link Local Address is.

IPv6 Network AddressIPv6 Network Address corresponds to the first 64 bits of the 128 bits IPv6 address.

IPv6: No ARPWhat corresponds to ARP in IPv4 to IPv6.

Convert: IPv6 to IPv4 – Explains how to convert IPV6 to IPv4 and vice versa.

Aside from these stuffs, I have made a blog about those unrelated to IT as well:

Things Need to be Addressed! and Sorry: Easy to say, Hard To Mean.

You can go to my personal blog which has a tag of The best diary ever.
