SEO Tutorial: A Comprehensive Guide for Beginners

Before anything else, let’s define SEO first. What is Search Engine Optimization or simply SEO? SEO is the application of endorsing a web site in order to boost the number of website’s visitors from search engines. Sometimes SEO is simply a matter of making sure your site is structured in a way that search engines understand. Search Engine Optimization isn’t just about “engines.” It’s about making your site better for people too.

SEO Tutorial: A Comprehensive Guide for Beginners

Most of the website visitors are driven from the major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo!. This is true whether your site provides content, services, products, information or just about anything else.

Search engines are unique in that they provided targeted traffic – people looking for what you offer. If your site cannot be found by search engines or your content cannot be put into their databases, you miss out on incredible opportunities available to websites provided via search.

Search queries, the words that users type into the search box, carry extraordinary value. Experience has shown that search engine traffic can make (or break) an organization’s success. Targeted visitors to a website can provide publicity, revenue, and exposure like no other channel of marketing. Investing in SEO, whether through time or finances, can have an exceptional rate of return compared to other types of marketing and promotion. (Source)

If you don’t have any background to SEO and you don’t know what to do first, have no worry, I will spoon feed you on how to do SEO.

  1. First thing first, go to google.com and search your website’s URL:

url search

Then, if you saw your website on top, that’s a good news because Google had crawled it. If it’s not in the search results, it means that Google don’t know yet that your website exists.

A Web crawler is a computer program that browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner or in an orderly fashion. Other terms for Web crawlers are ants, automatic indexers, bots,Web spiders,Web robots, or—especially in the FOAF community—Web scutters.

This process is called Web crawling or spidering. Many sites, in particular search engines, use spidering as a means of providing up-to-date data. Web crawlers are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for later processing by a search engine that will index the downloaded pages to provide fast searches. Crawlers can also be used for automating maintenance tasks on a Web site, such as checking links or validating HTML code. Also, crawlers can be used to gather specific types of information from Web pages, such as harvesting e-mail addresses (usually for sending spam). (Source)

From there, you can easily make a plan or strategy on how to be on top of Google’s result.

To start with, let’s answer the following questions – How will Google know what your website is all about? How will you know that users/searchers had found you? What will you search to at least test that your SEO is working? The answer is Keyword. To find the best keyword to use, let’s do keyword research.

2.    Do keyword research. Usually, I consider the number of search volume and competition. There are a lot of tools that you can use in order for you to find the best keyword. One of which is the Google Keyword Tool [https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool].

3.    Use those keywords to optimize your website or blog. Choose one keyword to be your main keyword [I would suggest that you’ll choose your strongest keyword]. Make use of your strongest keyword in your url, Title and Description.

Website or blog title tags are shown in search results as follows:

title in search results

URLs are shown in search results as follows:

URL in search results

Descriptions are shown in search results as follows:

Description search results

Those parts of your blog should be optimized to get the desired results.

4.    Contents optimization. Make use of your keywords in the title of your article. Make sure that it is understandable by the users. Don’t write for Google, write for readers.

A good content is what Google is looking for. Make sure to write informative information for your users or visitors. NEVER SPAM!

5.    Ping your website so that Google will notice your changes. You can use PingFarm[pingfarm.com] to ping your site. Ping not just only your domain or main page, but all inner pages:

pinging website

As you can see, I am not only pinging my main url domain which is https://arialleeve.wordpress.com/ for I ping it’s inner page which is https://arialleeve.wordpress.com/2013/01/10/how-to-tell-if-a-website-is-a-scam/ as well.

Remember to always ping your pages once you have done changes. Wait until Google index your website and inner pages.

  1. 6.    Build links to gain page rank. Tell your friends to write something about you on their blog using your keyword.

The best place to build links is in social networking websites. Social networking sites such as facebook, twitter and G+. Share your ideas and tell your friends to share your posts. To successfully make things working, buy twitter followers, fans and plus1’s from reliable websites. Make sure that you are aware about scammers scattered in the web and is knowledgeable enough on how to tell if a website is a scam and read some reviews as well about the services you are planning to buy – BuyTwitterFollowers.org and QuickYouTubeViews.com. Good luck everyone.

YouTube: The Monster Search Engine You Can’t Ignore

You probably already know this: YouTube is now the second largest search engine, having displaced Yahoo Search earlier this year. So, that’s big. And now that YouTube has a spiffy new interface, it’s a good time to think about (or rethink) your video content and promotion strategies.

youtubeAs I’ve discussed before, video is an increasingly potent and effective way to drive leads, demand generation and sales, both for B2B and B2C companies of all sizes. Setting up and managing an effective YouTube channel has gotten a little easier with the new YouTube design. Moreover, Promoted Video Ads in YouTube search results pages, which are a lot like AdWords ads in Google SRPs (surprise, surprise), can be a very effective way to drive traffic to your video content and YouTube Channel. (More about that in a moment.)

While there are a few new things in the YouTube design (most notably better social sharing and customizable channels), all the features you’re accustomed to are still there. Which means there’s more opportunity than ever to leverage your YouTube channel to meet key objectives. Be sure you learn about how best to set up and optimize your YouTube channel, including the new search and social features, and be sure you’ve properly branded and organized your channel with links to your website, Facebook Page and Twitter channel.

Once this is accomplished, given the range of features now available, you should be asking yourself these questions for each video you upload to your channel:

1.  Did my audience watch it? Track how many views each of your videos has gotten.  Critically review your most popular videos to learn from your successes and to apply those lessons to future projects.

2.   Did my audience click? In the video description field, use opportunities to add links to your website, and include special offers with links to dedicated landing pages. Track clicks on those links and see how  well they convert.

3.   Did my audience share it? YouTube audiences can now share videos they like instantly across their Google+ Circles, Facebook friends and Twitter followers, among others. So you’ll want to track the number of times any given video has been shared.

4.  Did my audience subscribe? The new interface makes organizing and checking in on all your channel subscriptions a lot easier, and, overall, it’s more intuitive now. As a result, more people than ever will be subscribing to channels they want to follow, so be sure you’re optimizing for and tracking subscriptions.

Remember, it’s critically important that you’re using Descriptions, Tags and Categories to their fullest advantage when publishing a new video to your channel. It will optimize your content and channel for organic search results on YouTube and Google.  Also, where possible, enable comments in order to fully engaged your community. Finally, be helpful to your community. Use the new Feed feature to provide updates to them, highlight videos you like and to impart information about your company.

And about that advertising I was talking about? Promoted Video Ads help to drive traffic to video content and your channel. In the same way that Google highlights text ads at the top of search results, YouTube features promoted videos at the top of a list of video search results. Promoted Video Ads also enable the addition of overlays to videos that include links back to your website, microsite or dedicated landing page.  It’s the perfect way to “embed” a clickable link on your own videos.

As always, organizing your keyword lists, bidding strategy, budget and click goals are all critical. If you’re already using a third-party search marketing tool like Marin Software or Kenshoo, you should be able to organize your YouTube campaigns using it.

Photoshop Tool: Magic Wand Tool

PHOTOSOP_MAGIC_WAND_TOOL

Magic Wand tool allows you to select an area of an image based on its edge colour. If you want to create a selection for your face and want to disregard your background, this tool is very helpful for you. You may think about using the pen tool which is everyone’s first choice of doing crops and selection. But you may encounter problem such as inaccurate edges and some fails of selecting an edge.

Thmagic wande magic wand tool will cut your problem off your chest. If you don’t know what it’s look like, the magic wand tool looks like a magic wand in fairy tales. Try opening an image file. Click an area on your image using a magic wand tool. As noticed, all areas that has similar colour are selected.

You can do a lot of changes with the use of your options bar. You can change your tolerance value fro

m 0 to 255.

tolerance

Note: the higher the tolerance, the larger the selection.

You can check the anti-aliased to define a smooth edge to the selection. If you want to only select an area which is joined together, you check the contiguous. Check Use All Layers to select areas from all layers.

Please see the above image for options 🙂

Photoshop Tool: Lasso Tool

PHOTOSOP_LASSO_TOOL

Lasso tools allow you to select certain areas of an image by tracing the selection outline. Like the Marquee tool, Lasso has different tools available as well:

According to mediacollege.com,

Lasso Tool

This is a freehand selection tool. Click and hold your left mouse button on the image and draw your selection.

Polygonal Lasso Tool

Similar to the lasso tool, except that instead of holding your mouse button down to draw, left-click on various points to create a selection with a series of straight edges.

You can also hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac OS) to draw freehand sections.

Magnetic Lasso Tool

This is a very handy tool for selecting areas which have reasonably well-defined edges. Left-click at the starting point of your selection and simply move the mouse along the edge.

“Fastening points” are automatically made at various points along the edges. Left-click at any time to add a fastening point manually.

To Complete a Selection

To finish drawing a selection, either click on the selection starting point or double-click anywhere.

Well, a lasso tool works somewhat like the marquee as well. It also creates a marquee to your image and you can use the move tool to move it. 🙂

Photoshop: Introduction to Different Tools

PHOTOSOP_INT_TO_DIFF_TOOLS

In order to understand Photoshop, you have to familiarize the tools used by designers. The tools of Photoshop are divided into five parts: (1) Selection, Crop & Slice Tools, (2) Retouch & Paint Tools, (3) Drawing & Type Tools, (4) Annotation/Measurements, and (5) Color box.

select_crop_slice

Selection, Crop & Slice Tools

This includes marquee, move, lasso, magic wand, crop, and slice tool. Usually, marquee is used when you want to make a square/rectangular shape on your image. Move is understandable already(use to move things). Lasso is use to draw selections in any shape that you would like to create. Magic Wand is used to select a color range. Crop is self-explanatory. Use to crop your image. Slice is used to slice an image when you do slicing. Most commonly, I use this tool when I start to build a new website design.

retouch_paint

Retouch & Paint Tools

This includes healing, brush, clone, history, eraser, fill/gradient, sharpen/blur, and  dodge. Healing is use when repairing something. Brush is very useful and everyone love this because, this is the only tool that you don’t need to study. Clone is somewhat have the same capability to a healing tool. History brush works like a normal brush but the only difference is that it’s paints is from the original state of your image. Eraser is understandable as well. It works like a simple eraser. You can use it when you have made a mistake. Fill is used to fill color to a specific selection. Gradient is use when you are making a gradiation of colors. Sharpen is use when making putting some emphasis to your image corners. Blur can make things blurry. Dodge is used to lighten any area.

drawing_type

Drawing & Type Tools

This group of tools are used for vector based drawing and type. This includes path selection, horizontal type, rectangle and my favorite pen tool.

annotation_measurement

Annotation/Measurements

These are tools use for remarks and dimensions. This includes notes, eyedropper, hand, and zoom. Note is use if you want to make a small note to your image. Eyedropper is use when you like to change your foreground background color to whatever color you want. Hand is use to move the image. Zoom is understandable. Use to change the size of your image.

foreground_background

Color Box

This contains boxes of colors. Foreground is the one in front and Background is the one at the back. You can click on any of them to bring up the color.

New Chapter: Photoshop

NEW_CHAPTER_PHOTOSHOP

When people ask for the best application to use for photo editing, Photoshop is the first in the list. It can be an image creation tool and an image editor at the same time. What is a Photoshop? How to Photoshop? According to Wikipedia, Photoshop is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems.

index

Adobe’s 2003 “Creative Suite” rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8’s renaming to AdobePhotoshop CS. Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the 12th major release of Adobe Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price.

Adobe Photoshop is released in two editions: Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Photoshop Extended, with the Extended having extra 3D image creation, motion graphics and advanced image analysis features.

Adobe Photoshop Extended is included in all of Adobe’s Creative Suite offerings except Design Standard, which includes the Adobe Photoshop edition.

This new chapter of my session, we will be tackling Photoshop. They said, only “professionals” can use Photoshop (which is very untrue!). I am not a professional but I am using it! My classmates aren’t professionals as well! Let’s take this conversation hanging. Thanks for reading and see you next time.

Convert: IPv6 to IPv4

convert-ipv6-ipv4

First requirement that you need to understand this topic is to understand first IPv6. Once you have understood what an IPv6 is all about, you are ready the challenge of converting IPv6 to IPv4 and vice-versa.

Given an IPv4 address of 192.168.1.1. Let us try to convert it to IPv6:

192.168.1.1

First of all, you can group these numbers that are separated with period:

192                     .                     168                     .                     1                     .                     1

As shown above, the address is now divided into four groups. You will use them to get its IPv6 equivalence. If you have noticed, IPv6 has hexadecimals (e.g., fe80::200:f8ff:fe21:67cf, etc.):

Make sure that you know how to convert hexadecimal numbers. We are performing that today:

192         /             16                   =             12                remainder                 0

168         /             16                   =             10                remainder                 8

1              /             16                   =             0                  remainder                 1

1              /             16                   =             0                  remainder                 1

Next is, we will get those numbers at the top:

12                    0                       10                     8                         0                        1                     0                         1

We are aware that there is no number such 12 in hex so,.. it will become:

C   0   A   8    :    0   1   0   1

Hoping, things gets clear. To convert IPv6 to IPv4, just do the same thing. convert hex to decimal:

C0

A8

01

01

Now, could you do that for me? just leave your answer as a comment. Thanks.
